How do I join or get involved?
Simply attend any of our events or workshops to get involved. We update our meetings and events regularly on our website.
Do I need to pay any dues?
No. Members do not have to pay dues to join. We attempt to have as many fundraisers as possible to provide events to our members.
Do I need any prior experience?
No. We accept all experience levels be it as an undergraduate or graduate.
Do you have to be studying geography to join?
No. We welcome all disciplines and interests.
What are map-a-thons?
Map-a-thons are gatherings for volunteers to digitize certain features (i.e. buildings or roads) for different humanitarian projects via the Humanitarian Open Street Map Team.
Do you just hold map-a-thons?
No. We not only hold map-a-thons, but also workshops and social events. We try to incorporate as much as we can during the year.
How can I get information from workshops I miss?
We upload any information from our workshops onto our Resources page under "Data and Software".
What is Youth Mappers?
Youth Mappers is an international organization that collaborates with hundreds of humanitarian groups like ours to improve geospatial technologies for communities in need. We are a proud to be a part of their chapters!
Can I get an honor cord with Mason Mappers?
Yes. Members who fulfill at least 24 hours of community service are eligible for an honor cord. Community service hours can be achieved through:
1) attending and participating in any Mason Mapper club event or workshop
2) attending and participating in other Youth Mapper chapter events or activities (please provide documentation, such as signatures or screen shots of the event)
3) mapping with the Humanitarian Open Street Map Team (HOTOSM) in your free time (please provide screenshot documentation of the task worked on)
4) work on any Mason Mapper club projects
Attendance to Mason Mapper events will be documented. For participation or volunteer work through option 2 or option 3, please submit documentation to the Mason Mappers' club email.
